HSRC WEBINAR | Data governance in the context of digitalisation in Africa

Strengthening data governance in Africa, in the context of digitalisation
05 November 2024
09:00 - 11:00

The HSRC cordially invites you to join our webinar on strengthening data governance in Africa, in the context of digitalisation, on 5 November.

In today’s data-driven world, effective data governance is crucial for ensuring data integrity, security, and usability. In the African context, there have been calls for a data governance framework that considers the continent’s unique characteristics while addressing gaps in digital transformation capabilities and the need for cross-country data sharing.

The African Union’s Data Policy Framework 2022 is a step toward creating such a framework. It promotes good data governance that helps organisations make informed decisions, comply with regulations and protect sensitive information, while enabling the flow of data across the continent. The webinar is an activity under a Science Granting Councils Initiative project, which aims to support African science granting councils in building their data governance capabilities towards evidence-based policy decision-making. The SGCI project is led by HSRC’s Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII) in partnership with the University of Johannesburg, the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) in Kenya, and the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, Senegal.
