The HSRC Press invites you to the launch of Voices of Liberation: Andimba Toivo ya Toivo – A Namibian Struggle Icon, taking place at the University of the Western Cape. Join us as we celebrate the launch of a compelling new addition to the Voices of Liberation series, which chronicles the life and legacy of Andimba Toivo ya Toivo — a towering figure in Namibia’s fight for freedom.

From his modest beginnings to his global impact, his journey embodies the spirit of resistance to apartheid and colonial rule. In this book, author Heike Becker illuminates ya Toivo’s pivotal role in shaping Namibia’s nationalist movement, including lesser-known accounts of 1950s activism and his legendary 1968 courtroom speech, delivered before his 20year imprisonment on Robben Island. Featuring speeches, petitions, and writings by ya Toivo and his comrades, this volume reflects a vision rooted in Pan-African ideals that continues to inspire new generations in the pursuit of freedom and dignity.
