BOOK LAUNCH | Tiyo Soga: An African voice in history, faith, and freedom

29 April 2026
11:00 - 14:00

Join us for the launch of ‘Tiyo Soga: An African voice in history, faith, and freedom‘ on 29 April 2026 at the Amathole Museum, Qonce. This book is the first comprehensive scholarly reassessment of Tiyo Soga in decades.

Bringing together leading international voices in South African intellectual history, this richly layered collection reframes Soga not as an isolated frontier figure, but as a sophisticated thinker who navigated colonial worlds with remarkable agency, conviction, and influence.

Featuring previously unpublished excerpts of Soga’s testimony to colonial government and two newly discovered photographs, significantly expanding the documentary record of his life and work. Tiya Soga: An African voice in history, faith, and freedom demonstrates Soga’s enduring significance in modern South Africa, making historical scholarship accessible to current debates about identity, culture, and intellectual heritage.
