Biko's Edge: Reimagining Black Critique
09 April 2026
18:00 PM

The HSRC Press cordially invites you to the launch of its latest title, Biko’s Edge: Reimagining Black Critique.

This thought-provoking work offers a fresh and provocative engagement with Steve Biko’s intellectual legacy, revealing both the originality and enduring relevance of his ideas. Moving beyond familiar interpretations of Black Consciousness, the book explores Biko’s concept of generativity — showing how his thinking opens up new ways of seeing, being, and imagining. At its core, Biko’s Edge invites readers to “think on the edge”, challenging dominant liberal frameworks. Through the lens of black critique, Biko’s insights become powerful tools for reimagining justice, identity, and resistance. Author Tendayi Sithole examines four key themes: property, Radio Bantu, the common, and the archive — each examined through Biko’s radical perspective. These explorations demonstrate how Biko’s ideas continue to unsettle and inspire, offering a bold critique of power and inequality.
