We invite you to a session presenting findings from the study: Understanding power, history and policy dynamics: A political economy analysis of youth employment in South Africa. Conducted by the Human Sciences Research Council in partnership with the African Institute for Policy Development (Kenya), the study spans eight African countries and applies a political economy analysis lens to move beyond traditional economic frameworks – uncovering the structural forces and power relations that have shaped the South African economy over time and continue to influence youth employment outcomes today. 

The analysis draws on the long shadow of the apartheid economy and its spatial legacies, alongside interviews with 40 experts across key themes in youth unemployment and focus groups with young people themselves.
